Today is National Parkinson’s awareness day and April is Parkinson’s awareness month. Parkinson’s disease is a long-term degenerative disease that affects the central nervous system. To date there is no cure for the condition only treatment for the symptoms. No two individuals experience Parkinson’s disease in the exact same way although it effects about one million people in the United States and ten million people world-wide according to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Signs and symptoms may include tremoring, slowed movement, rigid muscles, impaired posture or balance, changes in speech and writing, drooling and facial masking, dementia just to name a few. The tremoring, spasms and muscle rigidity cause changes in bowel movements and incontinence. This can cause severe anxiety and depression due to the loss of control over daily bodily functions. Due to the nature of this disease, bidet seats can help improve personal hygiene and quality of life that have been diminished due to these symptoms.

In the bathroom these symptoms can cause safety and hygiene issues. Railings, shower chairs and non-slip mats are additions to help make showering safer. Electric toothbrushes and razors often help in daily grooming. Have you thought about how the addition of a bidet seat, to your bathroom, could improve your quality of life living with Parkinson’s? We have found that bidets help people with a wide range of medical issues.  You can also check out our other blogs on how to use a bidet and bidet seat comparisons to find which bidet might work best for your household.

There are five stages to the disease. To read more about each stage click the links listed below. Parkinson’s can be improved at each stage of the disease by a few key lifestyle changes. First, Parkinson’s causes the deterioration of muscle, exercising to keep your body in shape and toned is vital. Secondly, sleep and nutrition are key factors in improving your overall mood and quality of life.

If you have a loved one or friend who suffers from this disease please share or comment your thoughts, feelings and opinions. We would love to have feedback on how a bidet has or could improve the quality of life for someone living with Parkinson’s disease.
